“A new life”, Bahá’u’lláh, founder of the Bahá’í Faith, prophetically stated, “is, in this age, stirring within all the peoples of the earth; and yet none hath discovered its cause or perceived its motive.” Today, more than one-and-half century later the implications of what He foretold has since taken place. Doomsday protagonists looking only at the dark side of world events and the physical aspects of human nature are inducing fear and panic, painting gruesome pictures of destruction, devastation, and divine chastisement.
Viewed from the perspective of tumultuous changes impacting the planet the central issue facing all peoples, whatever their nation, religion, or ethnic origin, is that of laying the foundations of a global society that can reflect the oneness of human nature. Rather, our very survival is at stake, the demands for positive urgent action on the part of not only the secular and religious leaders but of every man, woman, youth and child will determine the future of life on earth. The growing interdependence and the intensifying interaction among peoples of different backgrounds, through digital revolutions, spread of knowledge and skills for development pose fundamental challenges to old ways of thinking, believing and acting. How the leaders and decision-makers in a multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-lingual society respond to these challenges will, to a large degree, determine whether present-day society becomes nurturing, cohesive and progressive, or inhospitable, divided and unsustainable.
The twin processes--the collapse of old institutions on the one hand and the blossoming of new waysof thinking on the other--are evidence of a single trend which has been gaining momentum during the last hundred years: the trend toward ever-increasing integration of humanity despite conflicts and wars. This trend is observable in wide-ranging phenomena, from the fusion of world financial markets, which in turn reflect humanity's reliance on diverse and interdependent sources of energy, food, raw materials, technology and knowledge, to the construction of globe-girdling systems of communications and transportation. It is reflected in the scientific understanding of the earth's interconnected biosphere, which has in turn given a new urgency to the need for global coordination. It is manifest,albeit in a destructive way, in the capacities of modern weapons systems, which have gradually increased in power to the point where it is now possible for a handful of men to bring an end to human civilization itself. It is the universal consciousness of this trend--in both its constructive and destructive expressions-- that lends such poignancy to the familiar photograph of the earth as a swirling sphere of blue and white against the infinite blackness of space, an image crystallizing the realization that we are a single people, rich in diversity, living in a common homeland.
We must raise a generation of people that looks upon the current phase of the rapidly changing world conditions in a hopeful way, aware of the anguish created by the present chaotic social dislocations but see them as part of a long-term process of adjustment, the pain of which can best be alleviated if we become conscious of its nature and direction.
The global health pandemic caused by Covid-19 strangely derailed the so-called normal life and yet what lessons has humanity learnt? Alas, dangerous situation that erupted in Europe in beginning of 2022 has plunged the world into greatest peril.
As the events of the 20th century have already demonstrated, patterns of habit and attitude which have taken root over hundreds of years are not abandoned either spontaneously or in response simply to education or legislative action. Whether in the life of the individual or that of society, profound change occurs more often than not in response to intense suffering and to unendurable difficulties that can be overcome in no other way. Just so great a testing experience, Bahá’u’lláh, warned, is needed to weld the earth’s diverse peoples into a single people. “Soon”, is his confident promise, “will the present-day Order be rolled up, and a new one spread out in its stead.” Let us step into the New Year with a sense of “perpetual optimism, a force multiplier.” (680 words)

ग्रह को प्रभावित करने वाले उथल-पुथल परिवर्तनों के परिप्रेक्ष्य से देखा जाए तो सभी लोगो में एकता उत्पन करने वाला केंद्रीय मुद्दा, चाहे उनका राष्ट्र, धर्म, या जातीय मूल कुछ भी हो, एक वैश्विक समाज की नींव रखना है जो मानव प्रकृति की एकता को प्रतिबिंबित कर सके। बल्कि, हमारा अस्तित्व ही दांव पर है, न केवल धर्मनिरपेक्ष और धार्मिक नेताओं बल्कि हर पुरुष, महिला, युवा और बच्चे की ओर से सकारात्मक तत्काल कार्रवाई की मांग पृथ्वी पर जीवन के भविष्य का निर्धारण करेगी। विभिन्न पृष्ठभूमि के लोगों के बीच बढ़ती अन्योन्याश्रितता और गहन संपर्क, डिजिटल क्रांति के माध्यम से, विकास के लिए ज्ञान और कौशल के प्रसार ने सोचने, विश्वास करने और अभिनय करने के पुराने तरीकों के लिए मौलिक चुनौतियां खड़ी कर दी हैं। एक बहु-जातीय, बहु-धार्मिक और बहु-भाषी समाज में नेता और निर्णयकर्ता इन चुनौतियों का कैसे जवाब देते हैं, यह काफी हद तक यह निर्धारित करेगा कि क्या वर्तमान समाज पोषण, एकजुट और प्रगतिशील, या अमानवीय, विभाजित और असतत विकास कि इसतिथि में रहे गा।

कोविड-19 के कारण वैश्विक स्वास्थ्य महामारी ने तथाकथित सामान्य जीवन को अजीब तरह से पटरी से उतार दिया और फिर भी मानवता ने क्या सबक सीखा है? अफसोस, 2022 की शुरुआत में यूरोप में जो खतरनाक स्थिति पैदा हुई, उसने दुनिया को सबसे बड़े संकट में डाल दिया है।
