Pyongyang General Hospital’s Inauguration of Weighty Significance
Kim Jong Un, president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, highlighted the significance of the completion of the Pyongyang General Hospital as he addressed its inauguration ceremony on October 6, in which he said the hospital would become an engine, pacesetter and assistant in the development of public health. The hospital is located in the country’s capital city of Pyongyang.
At present, advanced healthcare facilities are being built on a pilot basis in some parts of the country in line with the Regional Development 20×10 Policy and inaugurated one after another. Such facilities are to be built in 20 cities and counties every year starting from 2026.
Given that the DPRK is bringing about a new public health revolution in a bid to protect its people’s lives and promote their health, the hospital is expected to serve as a hub of diagnosis and treatment, clinical study and dissemination, academic exchange and expert training, playing the pivotal, core role in modernizing the public health sector. It will also provide all other hospitals to be built across the country with scientific, specialized and systematic guidance and human, material and technological assistance, and create new models and fine experience in service and management, spreading them across the country.
It is thus understandable that the hospital will play a role as the performer, supporter and participant in the public health revolution the DPRK intends to achieve.
In his speech at the ceremony Kim Jong Un pointed to the need to find the main indicator of the public health revolution in steadily developing the country’s medical science and technology and updating the public health law.
It is said that the hospital will continually update the functions for improving the level, convenience and utility of the already established intelligent medical service system so as to steadily raise the comprehensive IT level of the in-hospital medical service and management. It will also work to apply diagnosis methods and therapies to clinical practice in keeping with the development trend of modern medicine, steadily improving the quality of medical service.
Kim Jong Un stressed the need to shore up the public health sector all at once by simultaneously promoting the construction of central hospitals and regional hospitals, individual healthcare facilities and medical service infrastructure across the country, and combining medical treatment with service and personnel training with scientific research.
In all, the DPRK’s public health modernization strategy is a strategy of simultaneous promotion, and the Pyongyang General Hospital is just the parent body of modernized public health and a powerful engine that will play the leading role in dynamically carrying out the healthcare revolution–herein lies the weighty significance of its inauguration.
